What is Third Stream music?

Third Stream music is, according to Gunther Schuller, a hybrid form of classical and jazz music that implies high technique, complexity and improvisation.

About Fu Ping

Starting with piano at the age of six, he picked up the guitar in high school and never stopped playing. He has played numerous different genres apart from classical and jazz, such as flamenco, choro, Irish, rock, etc. and is also very interested in ethnic music.

He obtained his bachelor degree in classical guitar in Taiwan, where he was born, studying with Prof. Ming-Jian Fang, his master degree in Belgium with Prof. Hugues Navez.

He also studied one year of jazz in the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles during his stay in Belgium, and is studying jazz guitar in Universität Gustav Mahler in Klagenfurt, Austria with Prof. Agostino di Giorgio.

As a hobby, he learned to speak several foreign languages, such as English, French and Japanese, in which he is fluent. 

In 2019, he received first prize from Concours International Roland Dyens, Révélation Guitare Classique. He performed his repertoire, compositions and arrangements in Paris, Brussel, Austria and Taiwan, etc.

In 2021, he was awarded first prize in Brussel International Composition Competition with his own work Toccata.

 

He also performed Concerto Métis by Roland Dyens with Chappelle Musicale de Tournai conducted by Phillipe Gérard in the opening concert of Brussels International Guitar Festival in 2021.

He participated in Paris Guitar Festival 2021 as a soloist.
